RESUMO Grande quantidade de resíduos de polietileno tereftalato (PET) é gerada anualmente em razão da utilização desse polímero na fabricação de embalagens e garrafas. Estudos indicam a viabilidade de utilização desse resíduo como insumo para a produção de argamassas, focando na sustentabilidade. Este trabalho demonstra a viabilidade técnica, sob os aspectos físico e mecânico, da substituição de areia natural por PET em misturas de argamassas destinadas à fabricação de telhas cimentícias (TC). Percorreram-se as seguintes etapas metodológicas: estudo de dosagem, confecção de corpos de prova com argamassas com substituição da areia natural por resíduo de PET nos percentuais de 0, 5, 10 e 15%; avaliação das propriedades físico-mecânicas das misturas e definição da porcentagem de incorporação de PET; produção e avaliação de TC de referência e com PET. Selecionou-se a mistura com 15% de incorporação de PET para fabricar as telhas em razão de sua adequada resistência à flexão e porosidade. O PET em pouco interferiu nas propriedades visuais, geométricas, físicas e mecânicas das TC, mantendo-as de acordo com os limites normativos. O PET é tecnicamente viável para ser incorporado em matrizes cimentícias para a produção de TC, o que evitaria sua destinação a áreas ilegais e aterros, contribuindo para a sustentabilidade urbana.

ABSTRACT A large amount of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) waste is generated annually due to the use of this polymer in the manufacture of packaging and bottles. Studies indicate the feasibility of using this residue as an input for the production of mortars, focusing on sustainability. This work demonstrated the technical feasibility under the physical, mechanical, and thermal aspects of the incorporation of natural sand aggregate by PET waste flakes in mortar mixtures for cementitious tiles (CT) manufacture. The following methodological steps were carried out: dosage study, preparation of specimens with mortar with replacement of natural sand by PET residue in percentages of 0, 5, 10, and 15%; evaluation of the physical and mechanical properties of the mixtures and definition of the percentage of PET incorporation; production and evaluation of the reference and PET CTs. The blend with 15% PET incorporation was selected to manufacture the CTs given the adequate flexural strength and porosity. PET did not interfere in the CT's visual, geometric, physical, and mechanical properties, attending to the standard requirements. The PET is technically feasible to be incorporated into cement matrices for the production of CTs, avoiding their destination in illegal areas and landfills, contributing to urban sustainability.

Abstract Soil-cement bricks are earth construction materials that have been gaining prominence due to their environmental advantages. The Brazilian Technical Standard NBR 8491 establishes physical and mechanical procedures to characterize these bricks. However, the thermal characterization is an important assessment, since it is related to the building’s thermal performance. The objective of this study is to thermally characterize a panel of soil-cement bricks produced with mining tailings. For such, its absorptance (α) was evaluated using the ALTA II spectrometer, and its thermal transmittance (U) and thermal resistance (RT) through the hot box method (ISO 9869). The results enabled the calculation of the thermal capacity (CT), thermal lag (φ) and solar factor (FSO) of the panel, which were compared to the Brazilian Technical Standards NBR 15575-4 and NBR 15220 for Bioclimatic Zone 8. As a result, the soil-cement body panel showed values of α = 0.71, U = 2.47 Wm-2K-1, CT = 273.4 kJm-2K-1, φ = 6.02 h and FSO = 6.81%, meeting the requirements established in the first standard, but failing to attend the second. To comply with the Brazilians specifications, it is suggested to paint bricks with lighter colors focusing on decreasing its absorptance value. Thus, soil-cement bricks may be an environmental alternative to dispose of the waste generated during the mining process, contributing to sustainability.

RESUMO Em decorrência dos problemas ambientais gerados pelas disposições inadequadas de resíduos, o presente trabalho busca encontrar uma alternativa para a reciclagem dos resíduos de construção civil (RCC). Entre as aplicações possíveis, o agregado miúdo reciclado do RCC pode ser utilizado como um componente alternativo em substituição total ou parcial à areia artificial nas misturas cimentícias destinadas à produção de blocos de concreto (B). Assim, este trabalho objetiva analisar a viabilidade técnica sob o aspecto físico e mecânico do uso de agregados miúdos reciclados para a confecção de blocos para sistemas de vedação vertical. Utilizou-se o traço de referência 1:19,19 (cimento:agregados, em massa), no qual o agregado miúdo areia artificial foi progressivamente substituído por areia reciclada de RCC. Foram testadas as substituições nos teores de 25, 50 e 100% de substituição de resíduo. As características físicas e mecânicas dos traços de concreto de referência e com substituição foram avaliadas segundo a norma NBR 12118:2013. Por meio do estudo de dosagem, buscou-se identificar o traço que incorporasse a maior quantidade de resíduos na mistura, mantendo o desempenho dentro dos limites estabelecidos pelas normas. O traço com 50% de incorporação foi aquele que apresentou o melhor desempenho, com teor de absorção de água de 14,30% e resistência média a compressão de 4,13MPa. Os Blocos de concreto da família 15x40 (dimensões de 140x190x390mm) produzidos com este teor de incorporação por meio de uso de máquina do tipo vibroprensa, apresentaram resistência à compressão característica de 3,21MPa e teor de absorção de água de 9,89%, sendo classificados como Classe C, sem função estrutural. Desta forma, os agregados miúdos de origem de RCC são viáveis tecnicamente para serem incorporados em matrizes cimentícias para a produção de blocos de concreto, corroborando com a sustentabilidade urbana.

ABSTRACT Due to the environmental problems generated by inadequate waste disposal, this work seeks to find an alternative for recycling construction waste (RCW). Among the possible applications, the recycled fine aggregate of RCW can be used as an alternative component in total or partial replacement to artificial sand in the cement mixtures designed for the production of the concrete blocks. Thus, this work aims to analyze the technical feasibility of the physical and mechanical aspects of the use of recycled fine aggregates for the production of concrete blocks for vertical panel systems. The reference trace 1:19.19 (cement: aggregates, by mass) was used in the dosage study, in which the industrial fine aggregate sand was progressively replaced by recycled construction waste sand. Substitutions were tested at 25, 50, and 100% of residue replacement. The physical and mechanical characteristics of reference and replacement concrete traces were evaluated according to Brazilian NBR 12118:2013 regulation. By the dosage study, it was sought to identify the dosage that incorporated the largest amount of residues in the mixture, maintaining the performance within the limits established by the regulation. The dosage with 50% incorporation displayed the best performance, with a water absorption content of 14.30% and average compressive strength of 4.13MPa. The 15x40 family concrete blocks, with dimensions of 140x190x390mm, produced with this dosage by the use of a Vibro press machine, displayed compressive strength characteristic of 3.21MPa and 9.89% of water absorption content, being classified as Class C, without structural function. Therefore, the construction waste aggregates are technically feasible to be incorporated into cementitious matrices for concrete block production, corroborating with urban sustainability.

Resumo Tem-se por objetivo analisar a influência da incorporação de areia de resíduos de construção civil (RCC) no comportamento físico e mecânico de misturas de solo-cimento autoadensável (SCAA), visando sua aplicação em sistema de vedação vertical monolítico. O método consiste em realização dos ensaios laboratoriais, considerando um traço inicial de cimento-solo na proporção 1:5, e mais quatro traços, em que se substitui o solo por areia de RCC em intervalos de 25% até 100%, em massa. No estado fresco, conduziram-se ensaios de espalhamento (faixa de 660 mm a 750 mm), densidade da massa e teor de ar incorporado e, no estado endurecido, ensaios de resistência à compressão simples, absorção de água e índice de vazios. Observou-se melhora na trabalhabilidade e na vazão mássica nas misturas híbridas, obtendo-se maiores resistências mecânicas nos traços com incorporação de 25% e 50% de areia de RCC, indicando um possível intervalo de dosagem ótima. Além disso, a incorporação de areia de RCC diminuiu a absorção de água, com valores abaixo de 20% em todos os traços híbridos. Conclui-se que a utilização de areia de RCC em misturas de SCAA apresenta potencial para aplicação de sistema de vedação vertical monolítico.

Abstract The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of the incorporation of construction waste (CW) sand on the physical and mechanical behaviour of self-compacting soil-cement (SCSC) mixes, aiming at its application in a monolithic vertical panel system. The research method consists of conducting laboratory tests, considering an initial proportion of cement-soil with a 1:5 ratio, and four additional mixes, in which soil was replaced by CCW sand at intervals of 25% up to 100%, in mass. In the fresh state, tests were conducted to determine fluid consistency (ranging from 660 to 750 mm), mass density and the air content incorporated in the mixes. In the hardened state, simple compressive strength, water absorption and voids content tests were undertaken. Improvements in the workability and mass flow rate were observed in the hybrid mixes, and higher mechanical strengths were obtained with the incorporation of 25% and 50% of CCW sand, indicating an ideal dosage within this interval. In addition, the incorporation of CCW sand reduced water absorption, with values below 20% in all hybrid mixes. The study concluded that the use of CCW sand in SCSC mixes has the potential to be applied in the Vertical Monolithic Panel System.

Abstract In Brazil, studies to reuse construction and demolition waste are a special issue because a large amount of this material has been delivered to the public landfills and in illegal places. Some researchers have suggested reusing this material in building elements, such as bricks or blocks. It is possible to find a lot of researches in physical/mechanical characterization, while little effort has been made to characterize recycled construction and demolition waste blocks (RCDW) for their thermal properties. The aim of this work was to characterize the RCDW thermal resistance and conductivity in order to provide subsidies for a building's thermal performance analysis. The hot-box method was adapted, together with measuring techniques with a heat-flow meter to determine the RCDW thermal properties. The results indicated that the RCDW block overall thermal resistance and thermal conductivity in the solid region was within the intervals of 0.33≤RT≤0.41m2KW-1 and 0.60≤l≤0.78Wm-1K-1, respectively. The lower resistance and conductivity values are justified by the presence of aggregate with a lower density and lower thermal conductivity than the natural aggregate.

Resumo A concentração e o crescimento populacional experimentado pela cidade de Cuiabá desde 70 tem favorecido o rápido processo de mudanças de cobertura do solo no clima tropical local, principalmente por causa da substituição de áreas naturais por edifícios e superfícies impermeáveis. Com base neste cenário, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar as trocas entre a superfície e atmosfera de um sítio urbano localizado nas proximidades da região central da cidade de Cuiabá. Em geral, as frações de particionamento de fluxo de calor antropogênico (QF), de calor armazenado dentro do dossel urbano (ΔQs), dos fluxos de calor latente (QE) e dos fluxos de calor sensível (QH) corresponderam a 3, 26, 28 e 46% e 3, 23, 31 e 46% da energia disponível no ambiente (Q*+QF), na estação seca e úmida, respectivamente. Estas frações do balanço de energia foram semelhantes às observadas na cidade de Miami, mas diferiram em termos do momento do pico e a intensidade. Os índices médios diurnos da razão de Bowen (β) nas estações seca e chuvosa foram 1,67 e 1,55, apresentando relação direta com a área da cobertura vegetal. Os fluxos de calor sensível e latente se correlacionaram positivamente respectivamente com a superfície impermeável e vegetada.

Abstract This intense growth and populational concentration experienced by Cuiabá City since the 70's has favored to the rapid process of land cover changes on local tropical climate mainly because the replacement of preserved natural areas by building and impervious surfaces. Based on this scenario, this research aimed to evaluate the surface-atmosphere exchanges of an urban site located near downtown of Cuiaba City. In general, the fraction of flux partitioning of anthropogenic heat flux (QF), heat stored inside the urban canopy (ΔQs), latent heat fluxes (QE) and sensible heat fluxes (QH ) corresponded to 3, 26, 28 and 46 % and 3, 23, 31 and 46% of energy available in the environment (Q*+QF) , in the dry and wet season respectively. These fractions of the energy balance were similar to those observed in Miami City, but differ in terms of the timing of the peak and the intensity. The average diurnal Bowen ratios (β) in the dry and wet seasons were 1.67 and 1.55 and showed directed relation with decreasing vegetation cover area. Sensible and latent heat fluxes were positively correlated with impervious surface and vegetated area.

Resumen El crecimiento de la concentración y de la población que sufre la ciudad de Cuiabá desde el 70 ha favorecido el rápido proceso de cambio de cobertura del suelo en el clima tropical locales, principalmente debido a la sustitución de los espacios naturales por edificios y superficies impermeables. En este contexto, este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el balance de energía en el entorno urbano situado en el centro de la ciudad de Cuiabá. El flujo de calor antropogénico (QF), el calor almacenado en el dosel urbana (ΔQs), el calor latente (QE) y el calor sensible (QH) correspondió en la estación seca y húmeda a 3, 26 , 28 y 46%, y el 3, 23 , 31 y 46% de la energía disponible en el medio (Q*+QF), respectivamente. Estas fracciones de balance de energía fueron similares a los observados en la ciudad de Miami, pero difieren en cuanto a la sincronización del pico y la intensidad. La relación de Bowen (β) en la estación seca y húmeda fueron 1,67 y 1,55, están directamente relacionados con el área de la cubierta vegetal. Los flujos de calor sensible y latente se correlacionaron positivamente, respectivamente, con superficie impermeable y vegetación.
